All my life, i have been learning big ideas from our parents, teachers, elders and even friends. Big ideas such as respecting elders, compassion, taking care of younger and weaker ones, working hard and loving kindness, but recently i reflected upon what i am practicing and realized that there are some small but very important things that makes you successful in what ever you do.
We become so obsessed with the 'Big Ideas' that small things are skipped. Small things like smiles, greetings, giving time, respect and being one self are a great recipes in life. as a teacher apart from teaching a stock of content, it is also a teacher's responsibility to let your students smile and enjoy being in the class. Why do you think some teachers teach so well that they are magnetic in the eyes of the students. Of course every teacher teaches well but some are so exceptional, it is because they are able to connect with every individual in the class. Greeting students, smiling to them and asking if they have any problem when the students are not doing good but more importantly, meaning it form the heart are some of the smallest actions a teacher can do and it has magical impact that it would nurture the soul. It would help your students bloom through out the day.
As for parents, they keep themselves occupied with works that they forget to assure how much they love their child. Spending quality time, listening to their feelings, taking child to school and giving advice would weigh more than giving a huge pocket money but remember, what you give or what you say is not so important but HOW YOU GIVE AND HOW YOU SAY IT, is more important. As a child, when ever my father bring me something i wished for and makes me feel like i have earned it. I feel ecstatic.
Therefore, I'd like to stress that little things in life make a big difference and remember that "ALL THE BIG IDEAS' that we learn everyday are great only when, it is flavored and stirred with the 'LITTLE THINGS'.
